The author Allen James is said to be the pioneer for self personality development and productivity books. Four of his works
- As a man thinketh
- From Passion to Peace
- Man: king of mind, body and circumstance
- Foundation stones to happiness and success
are combined as parts and whole into this one book “Be your own sunshine”.
The author with clarity informs us what and how thoughts are and it’s influence. He doesn’t just stop there. Predominantly he provides the guidance and ideas to take control over the thoughts to shape one’s life towards betterment.
The first part covers about humans’ thoughts and it’s impact on the health, life and the social environment.
The second part covers about tackling the hardships on the path to the successful journey of better life with better thoughts.
The third part felt as much more towards a higher spiritual journey to me. It’s mainly about how to get rid of binding negative thoughts and energy which sounded similar to reaching out for betterment spiritually. I agree to this area specifically as it’s true. Any human for that matters who tries to be better leaving behind the sinful pleasures in turn becomes awakened on the spiritual path.
The last which is the fourth part is all about 5 simple things to work on which will have a huge impact and betterment of life yielding good results. Most productivity books of modern days talk about this part only – working out a plan for a goal, choosing it wisely, thoughts and actions aligning positively in different names and in different ways with different tasks to practice just for self improvement.
My ratings are

I can’t imagine this author’s writings of late nineteenth century is so apt to the humans of all ages and times. He is highly intelligent to embark on such a journey to self realise, to be enlightened in-order to provide his knowledge to the mankind. I highly recommend this book to every person who focuses on self check, personality development and the ones who are always on the hunt for productivity and self help books.
