ARCHITECTURE GAMES – PART 1

There couldn’t be any one without playing a game in their lifetime be it physically playing or digitally or virtually. I had this thirst to play games relevant to my Architecture discipline for a long time. I had only played Rise of Nations during school days and none during college days. I was aware of only one Architecture game called Skylines. In the quest of finding more, I found many games in Steam and I thought of sharing it with you my fellas too.

1. Cities: Skylines

Urban designers and planners will certainly fall in love with this game. As the name suggests, the game is to build an ideal functional city. Basically, the game starts with a square kilometer with a road connection to neighboring cities. One should plan to take advantage of that outer connection to the city to be built with proper planning. One can customize the location aspects, geographical features, natural disasters as challenging as one needs. It’s available for PC since 2015. Download the game and try it yourself.

2. Architect: Paris

This game was released in 2021. I would recommend it for the people who love the city of love or city of lights, Paris. If you are a professional, you will definitely be aware of the need for Haussmannization and the planning resultant. Whoever loves to redesign the Paris city and whoever despises Haussmann can also make an attempt of your plannings here in this game. You can demolish and restructure or build entire built space or each structures too.

3. Home Design 3D

Architects who look for interesting software exclusively for Residential projects should definitely check this. Layout planning feels quite easy in this. Just visualizing a project in initial stages could be fun. The game was introduced in 2015 with only one floor and very limited library content. Later, with improved features now library content is with more options and multi-storey is available only for the purchased version. Currently, updates are there for virtual reality too.

4. Builder Simulator

This is one of the newly launched construction games in 2022. In each level, the player has to complete the task provided from laying the foundation, building the walls, adding doors to finishing the house with interiors. New locations and scenarios are available now. The game is yet to be developed for more levels or contracts. The developers are already taking their surveys seriously to develop the game as per players’ preferences and expectations.

If I were handling Building Construction paper now, I would be showing this to my students. Technically, I noticed a few good details and some missing too. Anyhow, it will interest the learners, instead of looking at regular shop drawings. This will be a game changer in a construction paper lecture.

FYI – Check your system requirements before purchasing the games.

Now don’t forget to tell me about your gameplays, favourites and playing experiences in the comments below.
