A thoughtful dive into – 50 things to realise before it’s too late by Manoj

Looking at the book title itself, I thought this book could be a reminder to certain things that I am already aware of. Initially it felt subtle and all good. Some points are well written with very simple short stories. The author has nailed certain points like that.

Some parts to me felt like reading this author’s diary who is trying to have a self talk or realisation.

Quotations, quotations everywhere

All 50 topics have quotes from different people and different sources. At some point I started feeling there were too many quotes. Each chapter is already so short and mostly begins and ends with quotes. Some chapters also has more than those two quotes. I don’t know how to describe it. I saw a quote about present moment in the chapter 38 told by master Oogway. I can understand that author wants to give quotations. But quoting from Kung fu panda series sounds very absurd to me. This world has so mean real people living and has lived and told many thoughts. Why do we have to be behind a fictional character!

Attribute

In one chapter, the author has mentioned that he framed a deadline of 30 days for this book but it went on to 90 days due to his lack of discipline. I was quite shocked to learn about 30 days attempt. But as I kept reading further I realised it.

One good takeaway – everyone has something to give, without a doubt, share be it your knowledge or findings, it will benefit someone.

Even this book would be of help to someone who is in much prime age with lesser worldly life experiences than me.

Chapter 46,48 and 49 are so deep. In the last chapter, he concludes as all 49 chapters aren’t true as they are all only his perspective. That’s quite a smart part leaving no room for anyone to question how could you preach this or that.

Modern spin

Another good part is that the author has explained certain things in various ways such as giving examples from movies or games one would’ve played so that a reader can relate or understand the idea better. That sounds quite updated approach which would captivate young readers.

Final thoughts

The author has published a second part on the same 50 things to realise in 2024. For now, I am not interested in reading that. If ever I read, I will definitely publish another straight forward review about it.

My Ratings

Repetitive pattern of quotes and a narrative or a short story goes on for all 50 things that the author writes about which felt a bit boring. Letting the readers know that the author tried to finish this book in a month may sound okay to some readers but not me. It made me feel that there’s going to be only surface level writing and without any great effort and content with depth.

You can read my review of another self help book, Be your own Sunshine by the author James Allen.
