The title of the book is absolutely perfect for the book content. It’s totally for the parents of digital era but mentors and teachers can also gain insight from this book.
The author covers wide range of issues from mental health to morality to safety to entertainment to AI and digital life. Every facts mentioned is backed by references.
The initial chapters made me think is this the only thing the author is going to address – digital social, dating and sex life. But it was only a part of the entire book. The major concern is addressed in the beginning. Teenagers dating online and the extent they take up their relationship online. The author doesn’t simply write as a parent imagining stuff. She has done her homework well. The struggles the kids face with their peer group as well as strangers and friends online. One might think what good does it do. Most fathers might think. But every mother like me who reads will certainly say, “oh is this happening.. I need that information to be aware and educate myself and prepare my children mentally be able to handle situations and to be cautious of the red flags. Some might say ignorance is bliss. But that doesn’t warrant any safety measures in this digital world. Awareness is the key to understand and be mindful of the consequences. Only when we are aware of what’s happening, we can prepare our children to combat it.
The author then covers about digital learning as well as gaming. Previously, parents let their children play in the grounds. Some play along with the children as a quality time. Likewise, parents can spend quality time with their children digitally too. While accompanying them, one can learn about their circle of peers and guide them through safety measures.
The final chapters entirely focuses on parenting types and the changes a parent should make themselves. As we all know kids learn from what the adults do not what the adults say. In the same manner, without limiting our own screen time, how can we limit our children’s screen time. The author provides few examples to set certain realistic standards at home.
My ratings are

I didn’t find any reasons to reduce my rating. The author’s writing style, choice of vocabulary, the sequence of addressing parental concerns are extraordinary. On the whole, amazing writing, interesting to read and informative enough to change the old school thoughts in order to understand the iGen.
The author’s stand to find the middle ground between no screen and no restrictions makes sense as we can’t go on either extremes which would backfire. The best part about this book is it speaks reality not any utopian concept or preachings that doesn’t exist.
