The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel – Review

The author Morgan Housel has worked on the New York journal’s column for economy. With his collective research knowledge, he has developed this book. His 20 research topic is the 20 chapters of this book. As I don’t have an economy or commerce major, I have difficulty understanding a few technical words. Sometimes, it feels like the author is making a simple fact into something big.. sometimes it feels like even such a small fact brings out a huge change.. so far, I have one strong opinion that the author could’ve made certain things in simpler terms.

I was worried if I would understand anything further while reading the first 3 chapters. Later, the 4th chapter was quite unclear to me. At the end of the 4th chapter, I understood the need for that long geographical information and how the author was correlating the melting glaciers to the compounding factor with years. The 6th chapter reminds me of Pareto principle. Sometimes, the least probable measures or investments brings out a huge output or savings, which is what the author says in the chapter, which sounds more like gaining 80% out of 20% (Pareto principle – check more here)

The 7th chapter is all good stuff for a happy, healthy life, but I don’t seem to find a continuation from the previous chapter. Β I found the 9th & 10th chapter interesting as I also have a similar perspective it was easy to understand, which is about the need to save money.

Then, it comes more about the circumstantial aspects affecting money flow and the changes in reality.

All 18 chapters are summarised in the 19th chapter. So whoever wants to skip the long narrations can directly take the key points from the 19th chapter.

The last 20th chapter is all about what and how of author’s money and ideology behind it.

On the whole, the author gives a wide range of information with real-life examples and strategies. This book doesn’t tell you what to do and what not to do with your money. It provides necessary information about the fall and rise one could have based on the decision with money given the time period and other circumstances. A definite read for an understanding of investing and saving money.

My ratings are

I highly recommend this book to every person as everyone deals with their money themselves at some point of life.
