Comparison Syndrome
Any habits of a person could become a syndrome and unhealthy when it exceeds a threshold. Comparing is also one such phenomenon that easily consumes a person negatively.
Generally speaking, people talks about realizing and overcoming their self comparison habit where people compare themselves and feel so inferior.
There’s another toxic category of comparing people which most people don’t talk about.
You might ask..
Is comparing that toxic ? ? ? Are there even categories???
Yeah.. I would say two categories.
- Comparing them with others and feel low
- Comparing them with others only to feel high of themselves
The first category is usually talked of and most children become victims by their own parents when compared to their peer group. This eventually haunts them when they become adults too. Only a few cope up themselves and escape this vicious cycle.
The second category are the toxic mind. Just to boost their confidence, to feel good about themselves directly or indirectly victimizes the former category. This habit once habituated it will influence the person to be more narcissistic in nature. It won’t serve goodness to them as well as people around them. Their narcissistic image of themselves might shatter someday easily and could affect them in the worst ways.
What to do if one doesn’t want to fall in both the categories of comparing?
Self check and self realization on a routine basis one can keep a check on their self progress and habits. Comparing is good as long as one compare to one self for the sake of self improvement. This is what I do to not be a toxic comparing person for my sake as well as others.
This is purely based on my observation and my solution that I practice towards it. If you have any other ideas or suggestions, please do share in the comments below to help me and others…
